Eric Dier: Tottenham set for ‘big boost’ after update on Conte favourite – pundit
Eric Dier’s return to fitness could be “very important” as Tottenham look to finish in a top-four berth, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Spurs boss Antonio Conte rates the 28-year-old “very highly”.
As reported by the Evening Standard (15 February), Dier is expected to return to action against Man City on Saturday (19 February).
He is recovering from a thigh problem that has sidelined him for seven of Tottenham’s last eight games.
Speaking to club media (21 December), Conte said Dier has the potential to become “one of the best central defenders in the world.”
Campbell claimed Spurs haven’t looked “as accomplished” without the 28-year-old.
“Having him back will be a big boost,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“I think Conte rates Dier very highly. He’s a top player and he’s looked really good in that three at the back system.
“They don’t look as accomplished at the back without him, that’s for sure. Him coming back may well be very important for Conte as he tries to get into that top four.”
The defender has made 19 league appearances this season, keeping nine clean sheets.
The former Sporting CP star has made 302 appearances during an eight-year spell at Spurs.
The 45-cap England star is contracted until June 2024.

Tottenham have suffered three straight Premier League losses in Dier’s absence.
Conte’s side sit eighth in the top flight ahead of their showdown against league leaders Man City.
