Eric Ramsay edges closer to West Brom sack after latest development at The Hawthorns

Eric Ramsay’s position as the leader of the sack race in the Championship has been further strengthened after the odds shortened again.

Since replacing Ryan Mason in January, the former Man United coach is yet to secure a single win in charge of the Baggies.

West Brom lost 3-1 to Norwich City in the FA Cup on Saturday, in a result that extended their winless run to seven games.

Ramsay‘s side have become more defensively sound in recent weeks, earning clean sheets against both Stoke City and Birmingham City, but they have scored just two goals in their last six games.

The Baggies are narrowly above the relegation zone, but could easily be dragged under if Leicester City’s pending appointment of Gary Rowett leads to more positive results.

Eric Ramsay dominates bookies’ sack odds

Ramsay was not dealt with a strong hand to start with – West Brom had just two wins in their final nine under Mason.

But the 34-year-old’s appointment has been an unmitigated disaster so far. The Baggies are easy to play against and seem to lack any threat at all.

Decision-makers at The Hawthorns demonstrated their belief in Ramsay when they handed him a two-and-a-half-year contract.

But after the departure of sporting director Andrew Nestor, that faith appears to be rapidly dwindling.

The threat of relegation to League One is very real and would be catastrophic for the club, especially on a financial basis.

With that in mind, it would not come as a surprise if West Brom were to make yet another managerial change in a last-ditch attempt to survive.

Following Saturday’s defeat, Ramsay’s odds of being the next Championship manager sacked have shortened again, from 2/1 to 6/4, according to one major bookmaker.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen (3/1) and Stoke manager Mark Robins (7/1) are the other contenders.

When Ramsay could be dismissed at West Brom

With just 14 Championship games remaining, West Brom will need to make a decision sooner rather than later if they are to dismiss Ramsay.

The Baggies will next take on Championship leaders Coventry City at The Hawthorns, with crunch fixtures to follow.

Ramsay’s side will host Charlton Athletic next week, with the Addicks just five points above them in the table.

And later that week, West Brom will travel to Oxford United for a match against a side currently six points below.

Lose both of those games, and there will be few reasons to keep Ramsay at the club.
