Erik ten Hag may have forced Man United man out amid ‘nightmare’ claim – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Erik ten Hag wanted Ralf Rangnick out of Man United after his interim spell as manager.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the new Old Trafford boss would not want the 63-year-old sticking around after his “nightmare” reign.
As confirmed on Sunday (29 May), Rangnick will not be remaining at Man United as a consultant despite agreeing to terms of a two-year deal.
The German boss initially arrived as interim manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November.
He was set to remain at Old Trafford in a consultancy role but has taken on the Austria job.
Hutton suggested the new United boss may have driven Rangnick out of Old Trafford.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “To have somebody like Ten Hag come in with his own philosophies, his own ideas, he won’t want the previous Rangnick era there.
“Working as a consultant, he doesn’t need it. This guy does not need this guy there telling him what to do.
“If it’s an Alex Ferguson, who’s had an unbelievable time, and you’re taking over from there, you need a little bit of guidance here and there.
“But if it’s somebody who’s had a nightmare, it’s like: ‘What are you going to tell me? How are you going to improve this?'”

Ten Hag joins Manchester United after winning a domestic double with Ajax.
He won a total of five pieces of silverware with the Dutch giants, including two league titles.
