Erik ten Hag tipped to sack multiple Man United men after news in last 48 hours – pundit

Danny Mills has tipped Erik ten Hag to sack the Man United coaching staff and bring in his own people – including Steve McClaren.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England defender who worked under McClaren claimed he’s an “exceptional coach” with knowledge of Man United that will help Ten Hag.

The club confirmed last week (21 April) the Dutchman, 52, will take over as manager in the summer.

The Athletic reported the same day they are set for talks over McClaren potentially returning to the club as his assistant.

They worked together at Twente when Ten Hag was McClaren’s assistant.

As quoted by Sky Sports on Sunday (24 April), Ten Hag revealed he has started making plans for next season.

“Normally you wouldn’t say this but I think he needs to clear out the backroom team and start afresh,” Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“Bring in all his own people, there’s obviously talk of Steve McClaren coming back in who’s he worked with before. Steve is very experienced, it’s never quite worked for him at management level but he’s an exceptional coach. he’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever worked with.

“That would be a flip round because Ten Hag was his coach previously. He obviously has links to the club and knows the club. That wouldn’t be bad.

“But you’ve got to get rid of all those other coaches, all that other input and just start fresh. Then you can start the rebuild of the players.

“Ten Hag wants a young team he can build and develop.

“They almost have to write off next season in terms of winning trophies. Look at Klopp, he didn’t do too much in his first season. That’s going to be the way for a season.”
