Erik ten Hag will be fuming with what he saw from Man United stars amid ‘freak’ verdict – pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Man United boss Erik ten Hag will be “angry” with his side’s lack of sharpness in front of goal despite a “freak” performance from Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed United will be “on the losing side” if they are that wasteful in Premier League competition.
Man United had 34 shots against Omonia on Thursday (13 October) but had to wait until injury time to make the breakthrough through substitute Scott McTominay.
Stand-in goalkeeper and Nigeria international Uzoho made 12 saves during the Old Trafford clash.
Man United are second in Europa League Group E with the result ahead of games against Sheriff and Real Sociedad.
Whelan insisted Ten Hag’s side must be “more clinical” and more “aggressive” inside the 18-yard box.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Sometimes you can come up against a freak of nature performance, and the goalkeeper had one of those.
“But I think Ten Hag will know they should have put the game to bed early on, and he’ll be angry that they didn’t.
“They made it very hard for themselves, and they’ve got to be a lot more clinical.
“Even if the goalkeeper is having a great game, you expect those chances to go into the back of the net.
“That’s one thing he’ll be wanting to improve. That clinical nature, that aggression inside the 18-yard box.

“He’ll be happy with the way they controlled the game and made the chances, but you’ve got to take them.
“If you play like that in the Premier League, you’ll be on the losing side.”
