Erik ten Hag ‘working quickly’ to complete ‘massive’ Man United signing after £80m update – pundit
Noel Whelan has urged Erik ten Hag to “work very quickly” in order to build his Man United squad ahead of pre-season as he continues to clear the decks at Old Trafford.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 52-year-old has “got a hell of a job to do” with “massive change” needed.
According to the Daily Star (21 May), Man United and Ten Hag are aiming to wipe £80million off their annual wage bill this summer – around £1.5million a week.
The report claims Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dean Henderson, and Eric Bailly will all be sold during the window.
Big earners Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, and Jesse Lingard are out of contract next month and will be allowed to depart.
Whelan urged Man United to do their business early – allowing Ten Hag to work with a full squad when Man United return to training on 27 June.
“I’m sure what Ten Hag saw against Palace just reinforced that need for massive change in his mind,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“They’re just lacking in heart, in effort, in organisation. He’ll be under no illusions that he’s got a hell of a job to do.
“He’ll be getting to work very quickly, trying to get these players out the door and simultaneously working on deals to bring players in.

“He needs to do his business early so he can have a full pre-season with a full squad of his own players.
“He has to to sign players who aren’t afraid to get stuck in and be proud to wear the Man United shirt – because this bunch have lost their pride.”
