Erling Haaland could leave Man City for European giants after report – pundit

Frank McAvennie is confident Real Madrid will pay Erling Haaland’s Man City release clause at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Haaland could use the release clause as leverage at the Etihad.

Last Monday (11 October), the Daily Mail reported that the 22-year-old has a £175million release clause that starts in the summer of 2024.

The clause can be activated two years in to the striker’s five-year contract by a club outside the Premier League.

The release clause is said to decrease over the length of the Norwegian’s contract.

But, McAvennie insisted a team like Real Madrid would be willing to pay the full price.

I think his dad and him will be talking about the release clause,” he told Football Insider.

I have got a feeling it will be a case of Haaland telling Pep to forget about rotating him.

If there is one somebody will pay it at the end of the 2023-24 season. Real Madrid would take somebody like that for £175m easily.

He is at a massive club but looking at him he wants to break all the records. He wants people to be talking about him in 40 years. So we will watch this space.
