Erling Haaland deserves extended ban as ‘dangerous’ Man City image emerges – pundit

Erling Haaland should have been sent off as Man City beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at the weekend (27 August), according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Haaland’s high boot was “dangerous”.

The 22-year-old appeared to catch Joachim Andersen’s head with his boot as they challenged for a loose ball in the first half.

A red card would have seen the striker miss City’s next three games, including the 6-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest on Wednesday (31 August) where he scored a hat-trick.

It was not the only controversial call in the game as Palace had a goal ruled out for a foul on Ederson.

“The Haaland one was a red card,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The disallowed goal, if you look at it in slow motion, Edouard puts his foot out. If you look at the rules, it should have been ruled out.

“One should have been a red card, one was right to be chalked off.

“Man City are Man City though. They are so good, they don’t panic. Against Villa last season on the final day and against Palace they didn’t panic.

“That’s what you are going to get from Man City. They know what sort of football they can play, they know it’s a 90-minute game and won’t be bothered about teams going 2-0 up.

“Sometimes big clubs get the favoured decisions. For me, it was a high boot.

“That would have been a learning curve for Haaland. He’s a very big lad, maybe he didn’t feel his foot was that high because of how tall he is.

“It was definitely dangerous.”
