Erling Haaland: Ex-manager ‘wowed’ as Man City source drops ‘incredible’ transfer reveal

Erling Haaland would be a “frightening” addition to an already “incredible” Manchester City squad, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 21-year-old would offer everything Pep Guardiola wants from a new centre-forward.

As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday (12 February), City are in pole position to sign the Dortmund star this summer with his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, pushing for a move to the Etihad.

Man City

A City source told this site Haaland is Guardiola’s first-choice striker target this summer.

The source went on to say the Abu Dhabi owners will back the manager in a concerted pursuit for his capture.

McLeish suggested Haaland could act as both a focal point and someone who drops deep from centre-forward.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Wow, what a signing that would be. I think he’s strong enough and confident enough to play the Premier League.

“When you’re playing with a club like Man City, he’s got good assets about him in terms of his strength, his running power and hold up play.

“But he can also step back into midfield. He can drop deep like Pep likes his centre forwards to do, when he plays the false centre forwards.

“You tend to think why does he need Erling Haaland? He’s got all these young kids coming in the team like Foden, for instance and one or two others.

“City could have an incredible team. To bring Haaland in I think would frighten the life out of everybody else.”
