Erling Haaland: Pundit issues ‘frightening’ verdict after Man City source’s reveal

Alan Hutton has claimed Manchester City would be “pretty much unstoppable” if they signed Erling Haaland this summer.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a move to the Etihad would suit both player and club down to the ground.

A Manchester City source told Football Insider on Saturday (12 February) that Pep Guardiola and club chiefs are big admirers of the 21-year-old and a concerted transfer pursuit will be backed by the Abu Dhabi owners.

Notably, the hitman’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland, is believed to be urging the Borussia Dortmund star to join the Premier League title-hopefuls over his other suitors.

The 49-year-old spent three seasons at Manchester City in the early 2000s and believes the club would be the perfect destination for his son.

Hutton admitted the prospect of Haaland joining Pep Guardiola’s men is a “frightening” thought.

“If he goes there, I don’t know how anyone’s going to stop Man City,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“The way they’re playing at the moment, they’re literally blowing teams away without playing with a striker, which is kind of beyond me.

“You look at Pep Guardiola’s teams in the past, they have always had strikers. As for City, whether it be Dzeko, Aguero, Tevez, there has always been somebody, a main focal point.

“The last couple of seasons they haven’t really. If they were to bring Haaland in, I think they would be pretty much unstoppable.

“You add everything together, his goals, the way they play, he would score a barrel load. I think it would be a good fit for him.

“Obviously with his dad, he knows what the league’s about, he knows about the team. Pep has a great record of making playing better.

“It would be frightening to come up against that team if he was to go there.”

Haaland has scored 80 goals in 79 appearances since joining Dortmund.

He has netted 23 times in just 20 games this term.
