Erling Haaland to ‘have a word’ with Man City star after what pundit has seen

Frank McAvennie has claimed it will “take time” for Phil Foden to get used to playing alongside Erling Haaland at Man City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Haaland will “have a word” with Foden after the game against Newcastle United on Sunday.

City drew 3-3 with Newcastle United on Sunday (21 August).

As reported by the Manchester Evening News (21 August), the 22-year-old has received criticism from fans for shooting instead of passing the ball to Haaland in the first half of the clash.

Foden was scrutinised in the game against Bournemouth a week earlier in what was a similar scenario.

McAvennie suggested the pair will need to spend more time playing together before they develop a good strike partnership.

It’s going to take time, he’s just arrived at the club,” he told Football Insider.

It’s going to take time for everyone to get used to how they play. Sometimes it just clicks. I’ve never played with someone where it took a long time to get to know each other.

You get flung together in training when you’re up front and you get to know who your strike partners are. Foden is a talent, he’s unorthodox, you don’t know what he’s going to do.

Haaland will have a word with him and then the next time Haaland gets a run he’ll give him it. I’d be very surprised if Haaland doesn’t say something to him.
