Ethan Ampadu sends Leeds message as Frank Lampard faces EFL sanction for conduct

Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu took to social media to send a message to the fans after their crucial 2-0 Championship win over Coventry on Wednesday (February 5).

The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Daniel Farke’s side went five points clear at the top of the Championship table.

It was a match marred by controversy involving Frank Lampard, with Football Insider expert Keith Hackett claiming to MOT Leeds News he could be in hot water with the EFL for inciting Leeds supporters.

Lampard was apparently seen cupping his ear in retort to the visiting fans and former PGMOL chief Hackett thinks there could be a reminder sent to the 46-year-old former England midfielder about his actions, particularly after recent messages from the Premier League over players inciting the crowd.

Joel Piroe opened the scoring for the visitors in the 17th minute thanks to a lovely ball from in-form winger Manor Solomon.

Jayden Bogle doubled their lead soon after, slicing through Coventry’s defense before capitalising on a miscommunication between the goalkeeper and a defender to slot the ball home.

The right-back is starting to establish himself as a key player for Farke in Leeds‘ promotion push, starring in their draw with Burnley earlier in the season.

This comes after fans called him out for poor performances earlier in the season, most notably in the 0-0 draw against Bristol City.

The Welsh centre-back has been key for Leeds this season, starting 18 of his 21 games across all competitions and failing to make a goal contribution in his 1601 minutes of action.

Ampadu took to Instagram to celebrate their win over Frank Lampard’s Coventry and thank the fans, saying: “MOT. Thank you for the support as always.”

Farke’s side had attempted to bolster their attacking line-up but were ultimately unable to bring Southampton forward Cameron Archer to the club in the January transfer window.

Sheffield United have the opportunity to close the gap on Leeds to just two points should they beat Portsmouth on Saturday (February 10).
