‘Ethan Nwaneri must sack his agent now – he’s been badly advised about Arsenal exit’

Ethan Nwaneri has been told to sack his agent amid the uncertainty surrounding his future at Arsenal.

The 18-year-old has 12 months left on his current deal and is currently in contract negotiations with the Gunners.

There have been rumours that the England under-21 international could depart the Emirates, with Chelsea monitoring the situation.

However, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Arsenal are not prepared to let Nwaneri leave this summer and are confident that a contract agreement can be reached.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that there is no reason for Nwaneri to be kicking up a fuss at this stage of his career.

‘Nwaneri should keep his head down’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Nwaneri’s agent has planted rumours of a departure in the press and deserves to be sacked by the winger.

A number of stories have come out detailing the youngster’s unhappiness with the lack of game time he’s being given by Mikel Arteta.

Wyness added that Nwaneri had been “badly advised” and should keep his head down to earn his playing minutes at Arsenal.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “This is where I would have taken exception with Nwaneri’s agent, who obviously has put this sort of stuff in the press.

“If I were him, I would be sacking that agent because I don’t think there’s any reason for him to be making that much noise right now. He’s a young kid; he’s got to make his career and he should have kept his head down and earned the playing minutes.

“I think this is all about trying to say: Am I going to be a first-choice player or not? It’s the wrong time in your career to start getting a reputation for being a troublemaker. So I would have sacked the agent.

“That’s what a lot of my feelings are about the bad agents who do that sort of thing. I’ve had many tussles with them over the years. There are good agents and there are bad ones, and I think this is a case where that young kid has been badly advised. He should be keeping his head down.”

Arsenal make Martinelli transfer decision

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed that Arsenal are not expected to allow Gabriel Martinelli to leave this summer.

Martinelli, 24, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates, after it emerged that the Gunners were interested in Noni Madueke from Chelsea.

Over the coming days, Arsenal are expected to bid £50million for Madueke, but that should not affect the future of their current Brazilian winger.

Sources say the North London side see the Chelsea star as an additional attacking option, rather than a direct replacement for one of their current players.
