Europa League club at ‘high risk’ of UEFA stadium ban as ‘unacceptable’ footage emerges from Thursday night

Nice’s fans are at risk of a stadium ban by UEFA after some were seen attempting to attack Go Ahead Eagles’ away supporters.

The Europa League has seen many controversial moments already this tournament.

However, Thursday night’s clash perhaps saw the most unsavoury scenes yet when after Nice saw out a 3-1 win against Go Ahead Eagles.

A section of home supporters could be seen attempting to clash with the away fans, with former referee Keith Hackett believing that a stadium ban could be enforced on those supporters involved.

Keith Hackett: Nice fans at risk of stadium ban

While Reo Hatate’s controversial red card for Celtic may have been the major talking point from Thursday’s round of matches, scenes in the clash between Nice and Go Ahead Eagles could now face UEFA punishment.

Footage from the game shows the Nice fans charging over to the away supporters before they were eventually forced to retreat by the riot police.

Looking back on the footage, Hackett was disgusted and exclusively told Football Insider that a stadium ban could be enforced for those who instigated the unpleasant scenes.

He said: “UEFA will receive a report from their Match delegate and that will be investigated by the Disciplinary department

“There is a high risk of a Stadium ban for those who instigated this unacceptable behaviour.

“UEFA take a strong approach to these outbursts.”

How is the Europa League table shaping up ahead of the final game?

Going into the final game of the Europa League next week, plenty of clubs still have something to play for.

While Rangers did beat Ludogorets on Thursday, they are now out of the competition, alongside Nice.

Whereas Lyon and Villa have both already secured a top-eight finish after their recent wins over Young Boys and Fenerbahce.

The other UK clubs in Nottingham Forest and Celtic do have something to play for.

The Hoops will be hoping to beat Utrecht at Celtic Park next week to guarantee their spot in the playoff round.

Whereas a win for Nottingham Forest against Ferencvaros could see them secure a top-eight finish. However, this is extremely unlikely given the number of teams between them and eighth.
