Evan Ferguson reacts to Adam Webster’s ‘absolutely devastating’ Brighton message
Brighton have lost both Adam Webster and Evan Ferguson in contrasting circumstances across the past week.
Fabian Hurzeler is leading a second successive summer rebuild at the Amex after Brighton spent almost £200million in the market 12 months ago, and there’s already been plenty of movement this time around.
Brighton have already spent close to £70m in this summer’s window with nearly half of that going on 18-year-old striker Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiacos, as well as Sunderland winger Tommy Watson.
Joao Pedro, Simon Adingra and Pervis Estupinan’s respective sales to Chelsea, Sunderland and AC Milan have helped to balance the books, and Ferguson was allowed to leave on a second loan spell this week.

Webster will be ‘back at it soon’ after Brighton injury update
Ferguson’s ineffective loan spell at West Ham last season didn’t deter Roma’s interest in the striker this summer, and the Republic of Ireland frontman completed his season-long move to Roma on 23 July.
Hurzeler has long since seen Ferguson as surplus to requirements at Brighton, but the German may now have to seek out an emergency centre-back this summer after Webster suffered an ACL injury.
Football Insider revealed Webster’s serious knee injury in a report from sources on Friday, and the defender sent a lengthy message on Instagram (27 July), saying that he was “absolutely devastated”.
A number of Seagulls players commented to leave their support and best wishes for Webster, and Ferguson also added a message of encouragement to say; “Back at it soon Webbo”.
Brighton’s business to change course after Webster injury?
Football Insider Verdict
Hurzeler didn’t see Webster as first-choice last season but will still miss the defender, and any chance of new arrival Maxim De Cuyper deputising at centre-back was surely ended by Estupinan‘s move to Milan.
Brighton signed Diego Coppola from Hellas Verona for £9.5m early on in the window, and Olivier Boscagli has also arrived on a free transfer after leaving PSV to further bolster the Seagulls’ centre-back stocks.
Webster is set to miss the majority of next season as the long road back from his ACL injury begins, but it remains to be seen if Hurzeler will change now tact for the remainder of the transfer window as a result.
