Evangelos Marinakis has agreed wretched Nottingham Forest deal that will ‘haunt’ him

Nottingham Forest are trying to change too much in the hope of reigniting their form in the Premier League.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Sean Dyche was sacked as Nottingham Forest manager.

Vitor Pereira steps in as the club’s fourth manager of the campaign, with Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou having also had turns managing at the City Ground this season.

The Tricky Trees finished seventh in the Premier League table last season under Nuno, but currently sit 17th and just three points above the drop zone.

Nottingham Forest ‘trying to change too much again’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Nottingham Forest could have made smaller changes to support Dyche rather than sack him.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks another change in the dugout “could come back to bite Evangelos Marinakis.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “In terms of judgment, I really thought that Dyche was the right one, having his Forest pedigree. I did believe that he would do well, Steve Stone and Ian Woan, all ex-Forest sort of connections.

“But it did seem that they tried to change too much again, and it seems that when you’re having four managers in one season, of course you’re going to get too much change.

“And I think that may be the one thing that could come back to bite Marinakis I’m afraid. Perhaps it would have better for him to have done a slight change rather than bringing in somebody else to make an even bigger change.

“They’re obviously all trying to rekindle that form that they had last year. They’ve got the quality of players there, there’s no doubt. And I think they will be safe.”

Vitor Pereira makes perfect Nottingham Forest start

Nottingham Forest fans were stunned during Pereira’s first game in charge when they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

The first leg result means Nottingham Forest are now firm favourites to progress to the round of 16 when the two sides meet at the City Ground again next week.

Whilst keeping Nottingham Forest in the Premier League is the priority objective for Pereira, a deep run in the Europa League may continue to keep the fanbase on his side.
