Everton already in relegation danger after ‘big’ Frank Lampard reveal – pundit

Everton need to “make moves” in the transfer market or they will be in a relegation battle once again in the 2022-23 season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villla and England attacker insisted Everton need to bolster their attacking ranks before the start of the campaign.

So far, they have only added one player to the squad that narrowly avoided the drop in 2021-22 with James Tarkowski moving on a free transfer from Burnley.

Meanwhile, their top goalscorer from 2021-22 as Richarlison has joined Tottenham Hotspur in a £60million deal.

Frank Lampard told club media earlier this month (5 July) that recruitment was a “huge” part of the club and bringing in players for the new season is a “big challenge”.

The club were under financial fair play pressures but the big-money sale of Richarlison has relieved that and Agbonlahor has insisted it is now time for the Toffees to act.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Everton need to make moves.

“They are in a risky place. They’ve lost Richarlison, they’ve lost Fabian Delph, they’ve lost a lot of players.

“They need more midfielders, they need more attackers. Tarkowski’s signed but that’s about it.

“Everton are going to be in a relegation battle if they don’t start bringing in players.”

Everton only avoided relegation in 2021-22 by four points after a run of only two losses in their final six games, including a defeat to Arsenal on the final day of the season when their status was already confirmed.

They kick off their 2022-23 campaign next month (6 August) when Lampard’s old side Chelsea visit Goodison Park.
