Everton backed for dramatic transformation – ‘this could absolutely change it,’ says pundit

Frank McAvennie has backed Everton to turn things around after the January window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker suggested three or four signings at Goodison Park could help the Toffees rocket back up the table.

Everton are currently 17th in the Premier League table but only a point clear of the drop zone.

As quoted by the Express (24 December), Frank Lampard said he will be looking for “more options in forward areas” once the January window opens.

According to the Daily Mail (20 December), Everton could reignite their interest in Stoke City’s Harry Souttar after an impressive World Cup.

The Merseysiders had been interested in the 24-year-old before picking up a long-term injury which kept him out of action for a year.

The 6ft 6ins defender helped Australia secure a place in the knockout stages in Qatar despite his recent return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

On 19 December, sources told this site that Frank Lampard’s side have agreed terms for a new contract with Alex Iwobi, 26, ahead of the January window.

But McAvennie insisted the Toffees need to start adding new players into the squad as well.

I look at Everton and I think if they make three or four signings they will be back up there. I do not think they are that far away.

I do not think any of the teams are that far away from climbing the table.

That could absolutely change it for them and Lampard will be thinking about that.
