Everton backed to appoint Duncan Ferguson amid ‘huge’ claim – pundit
Alan Hutton has urged Everton to sign a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender suggested former assistant manager Duncan Ferguson could be a good option for the Toffees.
On Monday (23 January), the club confirmed that Lampard has left his position at the club after a run of poor results.
On 21 January, this site revealed that Ferguson, 51, is a strong contender to succeed Lampard with a new manager expected to be in the dugout for the next Premier League game against Arsenal on 4 February.
Hutton suggested Ferguson could be a good option for the Merseyside club.
“He got a tune out of this team when he was interim manager the last time so you would not put it past him,” he told Football Insider.
“I think he gets the fans going, he gets the teams going. He is obviously somebody that is a real popular figure around the clubs so I would not be surprised if his name got mentioned.
“I think they need stability, that is the problem for me. This is not a Frank Lampard problem. Of course he was not getting the results but it is something like seven managers in nine years, that is crazy.

“The spending has been really poor, recruitment has not been great. So there is other issues out with what Frank had done.
“For somebody coming in, they need to be there for the long-term. You do not just want someone for the short-term and then you are just on the merry go round again. It is a huge appointment coming up for the club.“
