Everton backed to complete another defensive signing after confirmed news – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Everton look to the transfer market to provide cover for the sidelined Ben Godfrey.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League right-back said the Toffees may have to offload players in order to bring someone in to cover for Godfrey.

On Monday (8 August), the club confirmed the defender has undergone successful surgery on a fractured fibula and is set to be sidelined for around three months.

Yerry Mina was also injured during the loss.

Everton have welcomed the signing of Conor Coady from Wolves this week (8 August).

When asked by Football Insider if further defensive signings were needed at Goodison Park, Hutton said: “It’s such a shame, he’s obviously been through injury problems.

Obviously looking for a big season out of him this year and it looks like a bad injury.

I think Frank Lampard will look to strengthen.

It’s a team that, under financial fair play, might find it difficult. Given the amount of money they’ve spent over the years, they might have to shift some people out. It is going to be hard for Frank.

After somebody sustains a bad injury you want to bring somebody else in, even if it’s just for cover until they get back fit again.
