Everton backed to complete Billy Gilmour signing after source’s reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Everton should try to hold onto Anthony Gordon and sign Billy Gilmour.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker said Frank Lampard needs to keep hold of his “best players”.
On Thursday (18 August), sources told this site that Chelsea have offered an improved bid to the Toffees for Anthony Gordon after bids of £40million and £45million were rejected.
The Blues have now offered Gilmour and Michy Batshuayi plus cash in exchange for the 21-year-old.
Gordon has three years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.
Batshuayi has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge whilst Gilmour is tied down until 2024.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Hutton said: “I think Gilmour is probably one he [Lampard] would like to get through the door.
“He obviously knows him well, he’s probably the kind of player that Everton need at this moment in time and obviously they need a striker as well. With [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin injury prone at this moment in time, he needs a striker. Is Batshuayi going to be the answer? I’m not so sure.

“Possibly it could be a decent deal moving forward but I think Gordon brings so much energy and enthusiasm still for the game. They’ll want to keep their best players, they won’t want to get rid of anyone. I think if they should hold onto him and bring in the likes of Gilmour alongside him.
“Frank Lampard has a huge job on his hands, there’s a lot of players that he’ll need to get in to sort that team out.“
