Everton backed to complete Joao Pedro signing as deal agreed – pundit
Newcastle’s decision to sign Alexander Isak clears the path for Everton to sign Joao Pedro.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Watford man’s potential destination.
On 23 August, Sky Sports reported Everton had made an enquiry into Pedro, 20.
This came after sources told this site on 17 August that Newcastle were ready to submit a new bid for Pedro of £25million plus add-ons after seeing an initial bid rejected.
However, Newcastle are set to sign Isak, 22, from Real Sociedad for a club-record £58million, as per Sky Sports (26 August).
Kenny insists this is good news for the Toffees as Pedro would have chosen to join Newcastle.
“For me, it’s a no-brainer [choosing Newcastle],” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“If I was him, I would be looking at the plan Newcastle have in place and what they are hoping to do. You can see from their start to the season as well.
“Massive club, 50,000 there every week, mad Geordies. For me, Newcastle are on the way up while Everton are on the way down.
“If I was him, I know where I would be wanting to sign.”

Pedro has featured twice in the Championship for Watford this season, scoring once.
Everton are next in action against Brentford on Saturday (27 August) as they look to pick up their first win of the Premier League season.
In other news, one pundit claims Anthony Gordon is “hell-bent” on leaving Everton after Sky update.
