Everton backed to finalise Anthony Elanga signing after source’s reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Anthony Elanga could be the “spark” Everton need to move out of the relegation zone.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender suggested a loan move would be best for Elanga and his development.
On 14 January, sources told this site that the Toffees are working on a deal to sign the 20-year-old from Man United this month.
The forward is one of Frank Lampard’s top targets and are in negotiations to land the player but face competition from Premier League rivals.
The Merseysiders are also waiting for Elanga to be given the green light for a January loan exit from United.
The Sweden international has started just seven games for the Red Devils this season and is frustrated with his lack of game time.
When asked if Elanga would fit in at Everton, Hutton told Football Insider: “He has definitely got the ability, we have seen that for Man United.
“The problem is that he is not going to play week in, week out at United. So an opportunity to go on loan like Donny van de Beek did, would be good. They have obviously got a close relationship with Everton.
“Everton and Frank Lampard need something, they need a spark at the moment, something that is going to get them out the bottom three and winning games. I think a player like that coming in could maybe give them that spark.“

Everton are currently 19th in the Premier League with just 15 points from 19 games.
They travel to the London Stadium on Saturday (21 January), to face a struggling West Ham side.
