Everton backed to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement after source’s reveal – pundit

Everton need to sign two strikers before the end of the transfer window because they can no longer rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems and lack of form are a problem for the Toffees.

As quoted by club media last week (4 August), Frank Lampard claimed the 25-year-old will be out of action for two month with a knee injury.

Sources told Football Insider the day before (3 August) that the striker will more likely be missing for 10 weeks after tearing his lateral collateral ligament.

“Oh, they need one [a striker], whether it’s on loan or a permanent,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Yes, the defence looks good with Tarkowski and Coady but if they don’t sort out that striker position out they are in big trouble.

“They need two strikers, not one. I’m sure Frank Lampard is looking around for a striker because they need one.

“With Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems I don’t think he’s got a prayer of getting into that World Cup squad.

“You can’t afford to have that many injuries. Everton can’t count on him now. Even when he was not injured he wasn’t in great form.

“Everton definitely need a striker, definitely.”
