Everton board slammed over ‘defeatism’ after Dominic Calvert-Lewin update – pundit
Alex McLeish has slammed the Everton board for looking to cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin before the season is over.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Goodison Park chiefs care more about the finances than what is happening on the pitch.
As reported by the Sun (26 March), Everton are set to allow Calvert-Lewin, 25, to leave this summer after an injury-plagued campaign.

The Toffees could reportedly accept an offer less than the £60million they were demanding in January.
Everton revealed losses of £121million in their annual accounts for the 2020/21 season on Tuesday (29 March).
McLeish suggested the Toffees hierarchy are too focused on their financial woes to consider the on-pitch impact of selling someone like Calvert-Lewin.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “If Calvert-Lewin keeps them up, they’ve got another decision to make.
“To be thinking about doing a deal for him at this moment in time smacks of defeatism a wee bit.
“They’re looking at their losses more than thinking: ‘Let’s stay in the Premier League.’
“He’s going to be a big factor in the coming games to in fact stay in the league. If they go down, then it’s probably a no brainer.
“But right now, Calvert-Lewin is needed to bolster that team to make sure that they don’t go down.”

Calvert-Lewin has only played 11 times across all competitions this season after suffering a broken toe.
He is contracted at Goodison Park until 2025, having signed his latest extension back in March 2020.
