Report: Everton plot enforcer deal in January, PL rivals want double what they paid for him
Everton manager Sam Allardyce wants to sign defender James Tomkins from Crystal Palace in January, according to a report.
The Sun claim that the Toffees boss is looking to reunite himself with the centre-back, who he has previously managed for both West Ham and Palace.
The report states that Crystal Palace are likely to want to double the £10million they paid the Hammers for his services, when he joined the club in July 2016.
Football Insider verdict:
Allardyce has turned Everton’s fortunes around since he arrived at Goodison Park a few weeks ago and he will no doubt look to strengthen his squad in January, as he looks to build for the future and put his own stamp on the squad he inherited from Ronald Koeman. Tomkins would be a good signing for Toffees, as he is a solid, no-nonsense defender and would provide Allardyce with extra strength in depth. Allardyce knows Tomkins well from his four years in charge of West Ham boss and from his brief spell as Crystal Palace manager last season. However, Tomkins is a key player for the Eagles and Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson will not want to sell the centre-back, as his side battle relegation in the Premier League.
