Everton could agree Beto ‘swap’ deal as new transfer plan emerges

Everton may only sign a new striker if they can offload Beto in the final stages of the January transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, with Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri emerging as a target.

Everton face competition from Nottingham Forest for En-Nesyri, who has scored eight goals in 25 appearances for Fenerbahce this season.

Italian clubs Como and Fiorentina are interested in signing Beto, as the striker has fallen behind Thierno Barry in the pecking order at Everton.

David Moyes may ‘persevere’ with attacking options

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – is unconvinced that En-Nesyri would be an upgrade on Beto.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness does not believe a deal will happen for the 28-year-old to move to Merseyside.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s one that I don’t think is going to happen. I think we’re starting to see, as you said, a good result at the weekend, and we’re getting the players back from AFCON and some of the injured players like [Jarrad] Branthwaite coming back now in defence and also [Kiernan] Dewsbury Hall coming back.

“It’s going to be a full squad again pretty soon, hopefully. So he may well look to persevere with the options up front unless it’s seen as a swap for Beto, and Beto moves forward and moves on, which is possible. There is talk about that right now, but I think it’s going to come down to the last few days of the transfer window if Moyes decides to strengthen in that striker area.

“And I’ve got to say, I’m not convinced he’s actually really that much better than Beto at the moment. So I think that’s what would be the decision.”

Everton hit with Jack Grealish blow

Jack Grealish is set to be out for three months after he suffered an injury during Everton’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old will miss up to 10 Premier League matches as Everton chase European football for next season.

The Toffees want to sign Grealish permanently in the summer when his loan from Man City expires following a positive spell at The Hill Dickinson Stadium.
