Everton could now be hit by devastating third financial charge – Wyness

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has warned the Premier League could become a “battle of the budgets” as the Toffees’ legal bills rack up.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested it is “possible” the Merseysiders will breach financial rules again due to spiralling legal bills.

Everton were charged with a breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) last year and were subsequently handed a 10-point deduction.

The Toffees appealed that decision, with a final verdict on their punishment expected in the coming days.

Sean Dyche’s side were also been charged with a separate breach of PSR rules in January – meaning another potential punishment is incoming.

Laurence Rabinowitz KC has been appointed by the Goodison Park club to handle the situation.

Man City have assembled astonishing legal team to fight 115 charges

Meanwhile, Wyness told Football Insider in December 2023 that mega-rich Man City have drafted in an astonishing team of 30 in-house lawyers to fight their 115 outstanding financial charges.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It becomes a battle of the budgets for teams like Everton and Man City.

“It could come down to who can hire the most QCs.

“It’s possible that Everton could breach the FFP rules again because of the legal bills they’ve got.

“It is absolutely ridiculous.

“There’s so many inequities in this, and that’s what really worries me.

“If we don’t have sporting integrity in the Premier League, we have nothing.”
