Everton could sack Benitez in next 24 hours after ‘massive’ reveal – pundit
Rafael Benitez could be sacked if Liverpool inflict a heavy loss upon Everton tonight.
That is the view of former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “incredible pressure” on the 61-year-old.
The Toffees have picked up just two points from their previous seven Premier League fixtures.
Speaking to club media (30 November), Benitez claimed the Merseyside derby is “a massive game” for his side as it gives them a chance “to put things right”.
Robinson slammed Benitez for his start to life at Goodison Park and insisted the team should be doing better despite injuries.
“They are 14th in the Premier League with two points from 21,” he told Football Insider.
“Any other manager, regardless of what club they’re at, would be under incredible pressure after a run of results like that. It should be unbearable.
“Does any other manager keep their job after picking up two points from a possible 21? Not in the current climate we are in. Premier League managers are usually hired and fired very quickly.
“Financially, Benitez has not been backed. He has not been able to strengthen the squad as much as he’d like.

“But, the nucleus of that squad is good enough to be doing better than they are. Yes, they have been hit by injuries but they should be doing better.
“Benitez is under huge pressure. A big loss in the Merseyside derby, which is very plausible, and he could go. Benitez is on very thin ice at the moment.”
