Everton could sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin for ‘£60m’ after financial news – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Everton will be holding out for a £60million fee in order to part with striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.
The former Leeds hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Toffees could “balance the books” through the sale of the 25-year-old.
According to The Sun (26 March), Everton will sell Calvert-Lewin during the main transfer window as boss Frank Lampard looks to “slash the payroll” at Goodison Park.
The report claims Arsenal and West Ham are on “red alert” with both sides keen on the England international.
As per the Liverpool Echo (8 February), Everton’s last financial accounts showed a wages-to-revenue ratio of 88.6% – well above UEFA’s “acceptable ceiling” of 70%.
Whelan insisted the Toffees fans won’t be happy to see their talisman leave.
“He’s struggled a bit with injuries this season – but he has proved to be very effective in front of goal over the years,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Calvert-Lewin has always been an all-around striker – very good in the air, and a very good finisher.
“Everton will need to balance the books, which won’t be news the fans will want to hear. He’s still young, he’s got loads to offer.
“I think they’ll be holding out for around £55-60million if he is to go anywhere this summer.”
Calvert-Lewin has netted just three goals in 10 league outings – with his season plagued by injury.

The former Sheffield United man is under contract at Everton until 2025.
The 25-year-old’s best league return of 16 goals came during the 2021/22 season.
