Kieran Maguire issues verdict on Everton signing ‘goalscorer’ with £60m Anthony Gordon cash
Financial Fair Play concerns will not force Everton to sell Anthony Gordon – but they may well cash in anyway and spend the money on a new goalscorer.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 21-year-old’s future at Goodison Park.
As per talkSPORT on Wednesday (24 August), Chelsea have bid £50million plus £10m in add-ons for Gordon, who is under contract until 2025.

Football Insider also revealed last Tuesday (23 August) that Tottenham were submitting a bid for the attacker, who netted in Everton’s draw with Brentford on Saturday (27 August).
The Toffees have recorded combined losses of over £370m over the last three financial years, well in excess of the £105m permitted under the Premier League’s FFP rules.
Maguire suggests that the club will not be forced to sell Gordon, but he also forecasted that they could reinvest a chunk of the cash to sign a new goalscorer if they do decide to accept an offer.
“It’s desirable but not essential,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Everton have been signing players over the course of the window which indicates that they are working hand-in-hand with the Premier League over their level of expenditure.
“For an attacking player who scored four goals last season, £60m represents excellent business. He is an academy product, which is great news from an FFP point of view.
“If the club feels that the focus needs to be on someone who can score goals, they will need to pay a fee for someone to replace Gordon. They will also have to pay wages, and those wages are likely to be higher than Gordon’s as well.

“So, we won’t necessarily the whole fee reinvested. You have to look at the total cost to the club over the course of a year, which is amortisation plus wages.
“If it goes through, I think it’s more reflective of Chelsea than Everton. They are spending a lot of money at present.”
