Kieran Maguire issues game-changing Everton FFP verdict after £60m Dominic Calvert-Lewin sale news

Everton could “totally recalibrate” their financial fair play position if they sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin for £60million.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about reported transfer interest in the Toffees’ star striker.

The Sun‘s Alan Nixon reported last Saturday (22 January) that West Ham are interested in the 24-year-old, who Everon value at £60m.

Calvert-Lewin, who is under contract until 2025, was also linked with Arsenal and Newcastle United by the same outlet yesterday (28 January).

Everton’s FFP situation is precarious despite having a positive net spend in 2021-22, with the club’s £139.9m annual loss last year a major factor.

The club will announce their financial results for the 2020-21 campaign in the first quarter of 2022.

Maguire argues that, from a purely accounting perspective, a £60m windfall would be “very helpful” for the Toffees.

“This would be useful for Everton simply because of the nature of accounting,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“What you do in the accounts is spread the cost of a deal when you buy an asset, but then you concentrate it when you dispose of it.

“It would be very helpful from Everton’s point of view. It would effectively totally recalibrate their profit and sustainability position.”

Calvert-Lewin has struggled with separate toe and quadricep injuries this term.

But the England hitman has still found the back of the net three times in six appearances in 2021-22.
