Everton get green light to agree ‘four £50m signings’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the club will be in a position to spend £50million on four players in the summer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the increased revenue from the new stadium and a rollover in accounts will make “big deals” possible.

Everton have been forced to limit spending in recent windows due to uncertainty over their ownership and restrictions enforced by Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

However, the Merseysiders are set to move into their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium in time for the 2025-26 – and are likely to sign a naming rights agreement.

The Toffees’ current record transfer is the reported £45million capture of Gylfi Sigurdsson in 2017.

‘Everton in position to make big deals happen’, says Wyness

Wyness claimed the capacity will be there for Everton to break that record four times under the new Friedkin Group ownership this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I expect to see somewhere between £60-80million in increased revenue from the new stadium.

“Signing four players at £50million could then be possible because it’s about how you spread that cost over the contract length.

“It’s always confusing for fans – the difference between the headline numbers in the fee, as opposed to what the club is paying out every year.

“There’s no doubt there will be headroom this summer like they haven’t had for many years.

“It’s then up to the new owners, the sporting directors and Moyes.

“Moyes’ history has never been to splash the cash.

“Everton will be in a position to make some big deals happen this summer.”

Everton

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 January) that Everton are set for a busy end to this transfer window with David Moyes keen to strengthen in three key areas.

The Scot wants new arrivals at left-back, central midfield and striker – but the focus is currently on loans and low-cost deals.
