Everton have made ‘PSR play’ after filing documents – ‘this will come out soon’
Everton have made a profit and sustainability (PSR) move as new documents have been revealed at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Chelsea sold their women’s team to owners BlueCo last summer for around £200million, helping them turn their previous £90million loss for 2022-23 into a £128million profit for 2023-24.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa completed the last-ditch sale of their women’s team earlier this summer, helping them raise funds before their accounting deadline on 30 June.
Everton were previously docked eight points after breaching the PSR rules, with Premier League clubs only permitted to make £105million worth of losses over a rolling three-year period.
The Times reported on 28 July Everton have sold their women’s team to a parent company in a move that should generate a paper profit of tens of millions of pounds that could help the club make new signings and still comply with the PSR rules.

Everton owners have made ‘smart’ PSR move
This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen CEO.
Everton Football Club Women Limited’s annual confirmation statement to Companies House on 14 August confirmed all three issued shares in the women’s team were held by EFCW Holding Company Limited, which is 100 per cent owned by Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited.
The Merseysiders’ revenue increased from £172million in 2022-23 to £187million in 2023-24, while their losses dropped from £89million to £53million across the same period.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “A lot of the details are still to come out really in terms of the bodies involved, but it does look very clearly like a PSR play if you like, and that’s what I expect to come out in due course.
“From what we have right now, that’s how it’s sort of setting itself up for that and it’s exactly what you’d expect.
“As we said, there’s the Chelsea loophole, that’s what Aston Villa have done, other clubs are doing it.
“The Goodison thing only makes it a better deal and it’s a smart way to do it, so I do expect it to be a PSR play and I think that will come out in Everton’s favour as we look at this transaction going forward.”

Aston Villa make John McGinn transfer decision after Everton swoop
In terms of transfer activity, recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Aston Villa will dismiss any interest in John McGinn as they have no intention of letting him leave the club.
Everton and Newcastle United have been heavily linked with the Scotland international this summer.
Villa are believed to be open to offers for several key players as they aim to balance the books, but they have no plans to let their captain leave.
