Everton have made ‘worst decision possible’ after source’s manager update – pundit

Everton chose the wrong time to sack Frank Lampard and they will suffer in the transfer market as a result.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ hunt for a new manager.

Sources told this site on Tuesday (24 January) that Marcelo Bielsa has rejected an approach from Everton as they search for a new boss.

The Argentine is said to have been the number one choice of owner Farhad Moshiri.

Frank Lampard was sacked by Everton on Monday night (23 January) after losing back-to-back relegation six-pointers against Southampton and West Ham.

“Sacking Lampard so late is a bad move,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“It gives the new guy a few days or less to get their own players in. I said weeks ago that you should be looking to get rid of the manager before the World Cup break or just before the window.

“That gives the new guy a chance to come in and get his own players, work with them, and start to build a proper team.

“Everton look like they are going to make the worst decision possible, again. It’s just what they do at that football club.

“So there is no time for a new manager to bring his own players in. How does that appeal to a new manager? Who takes that job?

“It’s a baffling way to run a football club because Lampard could and maybe should have been gone a few weeks ago, why did they hold onto him?”

Leeds United

Bielsa was sacked by Leeds United in February 2022 with the Whites deep in relegation trouble, while Dyche has been out of work since leaving Burnley in April 2022.

The Toffees sit 19th in the Premier League ahead of their next two league clashes against Arsenal and Liverpool.
