Everton news: Kieran Maguire issues emphatic verdict on points deduction after £372m reveal

There is “no chance” Everton will be hit with a points deduction despite their recent mammoth financial losses.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Everton’s accounts for the 2020-21 campaign.

The figures, which the Toffees made public on Tuesday (29 March), showed a £103million loss, taking total losses over the last three years to £372.6m.

The Premier League’s financial fair play system requires clubs to lose no more than £105m over a rolling three-year assessment period.

The Daily Mail reported last month (8 March) that they could face a points deduction because of their staggering shortfall in recent years.

But Maguire claims that Covid add-backs and stadium construction costs, which are exempt from FFP, will take them below the threshold.

“This is a case of a club gambling and losing in terms of recruitment,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“But there is no chance of a points deduction this season.

“They believe Covid has cost them a substantial amount of money and they will be able to make FFP adjustments in terms of the stadium.

“They think that will take the below the £105m.

“The problem for Everton is that, since 2017, wages have gone from £105m to £183m, whereas revenue has only gone up by £22m.
