Everton in new move to agree Calvert-Lewin deal – sources

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could still extend his stay on Merseyside with Everton still hopeful they can persuade him to sign a new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Calvert-Lewin is one of nine out-of-contract players in line to depart Goodison Park at the end of the season, and his team-mate Michael Keane will “definitely” leave the club.

However, sources have told Football Insider that Calvert-Lewin’s situation is not yet decided, and as The Friedkin Group prepare for their first summer transfer window in charge, he could still be set to stay put.

Football Insider sources have said Everton officials are still hoping they can persuade Calvert-Lewin to agree fresh terms ahead of their move to Bramley-Moore Dock, as the number nine weighs up his future.

Calvert-Lewin contract saga still not over at Everton

As Everton continue to hit obstacles in their attempts to tie Calvert-Lewin down to a new deal, potential suitors have stepped into the fray as the 27-year-old’s contract heads towards its 30 June expiry date.

Sources have now told Football Insider that with a number of clubs “winding up moves” to sign Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer, the ball is now in the striker’s court with regards to what he decides to do next.

A sensational return to boyhood club Sheffield United is even on the cards for Calvert-Lewin, but that will likely depend on whether the Blades can navitage promotion via the Championship play-offs.

Everton must move on from lengthy Calvert-Lewin talks

Last month, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Newcastle’s long-term interest in Calvert-Lewin is on the wane, largely due to his inconsistent form and lengthy injury history.

Newcastle’s potential “U turn” could be seen as a warning sign by Everton, who have seen Calvert-Lewin score just three goals this season as his elongated contract saga has dominated off-field headlines.

Everton are set to intensify their efforts to sign Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap this summer, and simply cannot afford for the Calvert-Lewin saga to further distract their pursuit for a young, hungry and in-form Premier League striker.
