Everton insider reveals latest on Takefusa Kubo pursuit
Everton are keen to improve their attacking options this summer and there has been an update in the club’s pursuit of Takefusa Kubo.
The Toffees scored just 42 goals in the Premier League last season, with only the bottom three boasting worse records.
Thankfully, David Moyes and, earlier, Sean Dyche were able to forge an incredible defensive unit, with Everton‘s record of 44 goals conceded bettered only by Liverpool (41), Arsenal (34) and Chelsea (43) — sitting level with Manchester City.
But supporters and the club alike will want to see a big improvement on their attacking output, confident that if they can combine that with a rock-solid backline, they can become challengers in the top half of the table once again.

Evertonians get Takefusa Kubo update
Takefusa Kubo has been whispered as a possible target for Everton in recent months.
Real Sociedad stats | Takefusa Kubo |
Appearances | 137 |
Goals | 23 |
Assists | 15 |
The former Real Madrid winger has shown plenty of quality since making a permanent move to Real Sociedad in 2022, registering 23 goals and 15 assists in 137 appearances across all competitions.
The Japan international — who has seven goals in 44 caps for his country — notched five La Liga goals last season to help Sociedad finish 11th, while bagging another two in the Europa League.
Kubo would surely be a massive upgrade on the wings for Everton, who currently only have Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye in their squad as natural widemen — with the former performing well as a No.10 last season.
Everton insider Alan Myers recently commented on X about the club possibly loaning out youngster Harrison Armstrong to the Championship.
In the comments, one fan asked about Everton’s interest in Kubo, with Myers replying: “I think interest, not sure anything is progressing.”
Kubo’s league tallies of five, seven and nine across the last three respective league seasons would have left him third and joint-top twice among Everton’s marksmen.
Attacking reinforcements vital for solid Everton

With Jordan Pickford between the posts and Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski in front of him, Everton have forged a formidable defensive unit over the last couple of years — augmented by the timeless Idrissa Gana Gueye in midfield.
However, they cannot continue to rely solely on a strong rearguard.
A move to a new stadium will bring whole new levels of pressure on Everton, whose supporters demand their club be challenging for European places and trophies, having not lifted silverware since 1995.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has left the club following the end of his contract, while Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom’s loans ended, and they proved ineffective anyway.
Everton are short of numbers and short of quality in forward areas.
The signing of Thierno Barry from Villarreal will go a long way to remedying their No.9 requirements, but Everton also need to sign multiple wingers to give Moyes the tools he needs to be competitive.
Kubo won’t be cheap with a contract running until the summer of 2029. However, he would be a huge statement of intent from Everton in their new home, and an incredible addition to Moyes’ squad.
