Everton issued with new Mohammed Kudus warning after promising Sky update – pundit
Noel Whelan has warned the potential signing of Mohammed Kudus “won’t change much” for Everton while Frank Lampard continues to employ an “unattractive” and “defensive” brand of football.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed attackers like Anthony Gordon and Dwight McNeil are not being used to their “full potential” at present.
Speaking to Sky Sports (16 December), Ghanaian journalist Gary Al-Smith has claimed Everton still have “one of the strongest” interests in Kudus, 22, after he starred at the World Cup in Qatar.
The report claims the Ajax star has a “firm desire” to leave the Dutch club in January – with the Premier League his apparent preferred destination.
Kudus scored twice in three games for Ghana at the World Cup – adding to his haul of 10 goals and two assists at club level so far this season.
Meanwhile, Everton top scorer Anthony Gordon has notched just three strikes in the 2022-23 campaign – with the Toffees netting just 11 goals in 15 Premier League games.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think one player will change much.
“The problem is more with this defensive, counter-attacking style that Frank Lampard is using right now at Everton.
“It’s not attractive to watch at all, and the Everton fans are not enjoying it.
“If you’re going to go out and buy attackers with flair and creativity, like Kudus – you’ve got to play a certain style.
“You’ve got to get them plenty of touches of the ball, or there’s just no point in signing them.
“Ghana were an attacking side and Kudus showed what a good player he is within that setup.

“But right now, we’re not seeing that from Everton. Just look at their attackers right now, they’re not being used to their full potential.
“Gordon should be getting the ball all the time, McNeil should be getting touches – it’s just not happening.”
