Everton lining up £9m move for international defender – report
By Derek Smithson
Everton are considering a move to sign West Ham defender Winston Reid, according to a report.
The Mail claim that the Toffees are lining up a £9million bid to sign the centre-back as Ronald Koeman looks to bolster his squad.
It is understood that the Merseyside club are looking for cover in defence due to the injury of Ramiro Funes Mori and have identified the 29-year-old as an option.
The report details that West Ham are prepared to listen to offers for the defender following a busy summer of spending.
Reid has been with the Hammers since 2010 and become an important feature in their starting XI.
The New Zealand international is also a key representative for his country and has 21 senior caps under his belt so far.
He is recognised as being a ball-playing defender that has a great range of passing and is also very strong in the air.
Reid now has 203 appearances for West Ham under his belt, but Everton are tempted to try pull of a deal for the player from their Premier League rivals.
Football Insider verdict:
Everton have added the £30million signing of defender Michael Keane this summer, but are still short of a centre-back going into the new campaign, especially if they want to persist with three at the back. West Ham ace Reid would be a great signing for Ronald Koeman and he would be able to help improve the backline. The 29-year-old has shown himself to be a reliable figure in the Premier League during his years with West Ham and a fresh move could now come at a good time in his career. Additionally, Everton would be pulling off a great deal if they can snap up Reid for a bargain £9million. They would be adding the ready-made product that can boost the Toffees and it would be a strong investment.
