Everton hold discussions in hunt for West Ham senior player, approach made – report

Everton have approached Bayern Munich with an enquiry about left-back Juan Bernat, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claimed on their live transfer blog on Thursday [03:57pm] that Everton have hit a snag in their hunt for Bernat, 24, as Bayern do not want to let him leave despite the Spain international only making two appearances in all competitions this season.
It is understood that discussions have been held about several other left-back options they are in the hunt to sign, including West Ham ace Aaron Cresswell.
The report adds that Manchester United’s Luke Shaw, Porto’s Alex Telles and Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt have also been considered by the Toffees, who have been let down in their reported hunt to sign left-sided Bayern flyer Bernat.
Cresswell, 28, has been ever-present for West Ham this season, making 23 appearances in all competitions and supplying four assists in the process.
The Hammers’ senior player has come under criticism for his performances though, and it remains to be seen if David Moyes would let him join a direct Premier League rival.
Football Insider verdict
Everton really need a left-back this month. Leighton Baines has had his injury problems and Cuco Martina is not good enough in his natural right-sided position, never mind on the left. Cresswell has had a left-sided central role in a back three for West Ham as of late but would still be able to do a job for the Toffees if they were to sign him. The fact he is English though would mean he’d probably cost a lot more than the likes of Bernat, van Aanholt and Telles. Everton should have the money to spend though, but Sam Allardcye must spend it wisely.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are willing to offload this £28.8million duo this month.
