Everton may be preparing to sell Anthony Gordon after source’s ‘huge’ reveal – pundit

Everton may be only giving Anthony Gordon a new contract so they can sell him for “top dollar” in 2023, according to Paul Robinson.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and England goalkeeper delivered his verdict as negotiations over a new deal are underway

Sources told Football Insider on Saturday (16 July) that the club have opened talks with the 21-year-old over a new deal that would hand him a “huge” pay rise.

The 21-year-old has three years left to run on his new deal and has attracted interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham this summer.

Football Insider first revealed earlier this month (6 July) that the Toffees had knocked back a £35million bid from Newcastle.

“I think they will keep him this transfer window,” Robinson told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“They will give him a pay increase to what he deserves and it will secure their asset only.

“By giving him a new contract, yes, it gives him a pay rise that he deserves, yes, it ties him to the club for a bit longer but I think Everton are purely securing their asset.

“When the time comes, they will want to sell him for top dollar. If he’s got 12 months or 18 months left on his contract, his value is going to be nowhere near what it would be if he has four years left on a five-year deal next summer.

“It’s a situation which works for both. The club do have to protect their asset because when they do come to sell him, they will want that top price for him.”
