Everton may have already identified Anthony Gordon replacement after source’s reveal – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Everton will have a replacement in mind if they sell Anthony Gordon to Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker “would be shocked” if the Toffees let Gordon go without a replacement identified.

On Sunday (14 August), a source told this site that Chelsea have tabled a £40million bid for the 21-year-old.

The Toffees have already rejected a £35million bid from Newcastle United for the forward.

Gordon has three years left on his contract at Goodison Park.

The England under-21 international has started both of Everton’s Premier League games so far this season.

When asked if Frank Lampard’s side could afford to turn down Chelsea’s bid, McAvennie told Football Insider: “No probably not but Frank Lampard will have somebody in mind if he’s going to leave.

I would be shocked if they didn’t have people they were going to turn to. There’s only a couple of weeks left of the window so there’s a lot of business that’s going to be done.

Everton

They’re going to be in the market for players with Man United, they’re going to be signing the same level of players. Man United used to go for top players but they won’t be able to do that anymore now they’re not in the Champions League.

So they’re going to be competing with Everton for players. £40m for Gordon to Chelsea, will he get a game week in week out? I don’t think he’ll get a game every week. He won’t be a number one starter for Chelsea at the moment.

In other news, sources have told this site that Everton have made an approach for a Man United star amid a £14m reveal.
