Everton may have found Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement after ‘brilliant’ news – pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Everton may not sign a replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the January window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one suspects Ellis Simms has been brought back to provide competition and cover for Calvert-Lewin.

On Saturday (31 December), the Toffees confirmed Simms has been recalled from his loan spell at Sunderland.

Simms impressed on Wearside, scoring seven in 17 Championship appearances.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (2 January), Frank Lampard said the striker will provide “another attacking option” in the second half of the season.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Simms’ return, Robinson said: “I think there is going to be game time for him.

“There is no guarantee that they will be able to sign another striker with the funds they have available. They may not get anybody in January. We do not know what the budget is.

“I think it is a brilliant move bringing Simms back. He is a player that is needed give the problems Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had with his fitness.

“I’m sure Frank will give Simms opportunities. They cannot rely on Calvert-Lewin and Neil Maupay. Maupay is not going to score the goals they need. Simms gives them another option.

“When you have a player like that who is young and scoring goals for a big club like Sunderland, why not give him a chance? It makes complete sense to me.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Everton ‘mystery’ is like ‘solving a Rubix cube’ as two deals now all but done.
