Everton must sell star players before 30th June – sources

Everton will be forced to sell some of their key stars before 30 June to balance their books, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that departures of “prized assets” are “inevitable”.

The club announced last week (28 March) that they lost £89.1million in the 2022-23 season – a huge jump from the £44.7million they lost in the previous campaign.

It is believed that should the pending takeover from American investment group 777 Partners, who have reportedly loaned the Toffees nearly £200million for running costs, falls through or if they get relegated, there will be further pressure on Everton to sell.

Everton financial woes make key player departures “inevitable”

By 30 June, clubs must file their financial accounts, meaning Sean Dyche’s side will have to sanction player sales by then to avoid another potentially devastating punishment.

The club’s finances have been under major scrutiny in recent months.

They faced a 10-point deduction in November after exceeding the allowable £105million losses over the three-year rolling period to 2021-22.

While their first sanction was reduced to a six-point deduction after an appeal, Everton have a second pending charge for a breach relating to their 2022-23 accounts, with the verdict by an independent commission set to be announced on Monday (8 April).

Sources have also told Football Insider (29 March) that midfield star Amadou Onana will be sold this summer if Everton are relegated amid interest from West Ham United.

Everton sit 16th in the Premier League table after their 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday (2 April) – their 13th consecutive league game without a win.

They are next in action against Burnley, the team they last beat in the league back in December, at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon (6 April).
