Everton must sign defender compared to John Stones with reported Jan transfer on the cards

Sam Allardyce needs to add some extra defensive steel to his Everton side in the January transfer window and may spend big amounts of money in order to get the squad firing up the Premier League standings.

One area that the Toffees manager must strengthen is at centre-back, where his current options are yet to have an impressive run of form while the likes of the aging Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams are in need of replacing.

The perfect replacement for Everton lies north of the border in Dundee star Jack Hendry, who is reportedly attracting a lot of attention from Premier League sides.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the 22-year-old is widely expected to join Celtic in January, but Everton should be doing the best they can to beat them to the signing of the Scot.

it is understood that Newcastle, Southampton and Crystal Palace also have eyes on the centre-back, who has been compared to John Stones due to his stylish play in the heart of defence.

Stones, of course, was brilliant in his time at Everton before moving to Manchester City and becoming a major part of their record-breaking team of this season.

Any player compared to the England international should be one that the Toffees should have their eyes on and they must make an effort to sign him in January.

In years to come, Hendry could be the perfect partner with Michael Keane in the heart of the Goodison Park backline.
