Everton news: Donny van de Beek tipped to become ‘fan favourite’ as pundit details ‘exciting’ update
Donny van de Beek will be “desperate” to shine at Everton in order to break back into the Netherlands squad, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old could become a “fan favourite” at Goodison Park.
Everton confirmed the season-long loan arrival of Man United midfielder Van de Beek on transfer deadline day (31 January).
The former Ajax star has not started a Premier League match this season and has made just four league starts since signing for the Red Devils in a reported £35.7million deal in 2020.
Whelan insisted Van de Beek will be looking to put his “frustrating” Man United spell in the rearview mirrors after being handed a “new start” under new Toffees boss Frank Lampard.
“He’ll have a real point to prove, absolutely,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“It’s a new start for him now in the Premier League. He’ll have been so frustrated at Man United because it will have been costing him a place in the Netherlands squad.
“He’ll be desperate to make a success of this Everton spell with the World Cup coming up.
“This is a real opportunity to be part of an exciting project, under a fresh new manager. The squad looks a lot stronger.
“Van de Beek is a player who wears his heart on his sleeve, we saw that with Ajax – and I think at Everton he will be a real fan favourite again.”

Van de Beek could make his Everton debut against Brentford in the FA Cup this Saturday (5 February).
The 19-cap Netherlands international failed to start any of his country’s 16 matches in 2021.
