Everton news: Expert issues ‘controversial’ Anthony Gordon claim after source’s update

Everton will not sell Anthony Gordon unless they “absolutely have to”.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s future.

A Newcastle source told Football Insider (6 July) that the club submitted a £35million bid for the England under-21 international.

Tottenham are understood to have also expressed an interest in the winger, who has three years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old burst onto the scene during the 2021-22 campaign, making 40 appearances in all competitions for the Blues

Kenny insists Gordon is “loved” at Everton and will not be sold unless the club has no other choice.

“You hope they don’t have to sell him, it would be controversial,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They definitely won’t want to sell him, we know that. It’s whether they have to sell him. We all know the financial situation at Everton.

“But he is loved there and I’m sure they would rather sell other players instead of Gordon.

“He needs to stay there and improve under Lampard at his hometown club. They won’t sell him unless they absolutely have to, I’m certain of that.”

Gordon made 35 appearances in the 2021-22 Premier League season scoring four goals and registering two assists.

He has made 60 total appearances for the club, making his debut on 7 December 2017 in Everton’s Europa League match away to Apollon Limassol.[4]
