Everton news: Lampard tipped to ‘unleash’ next Anthony Gordon after what he’s just seen – pundit

Alex McLeish has tipped Frank Lampard to “unleash” Nathan Patterson for Everton after his performances for Scotland.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 20-year-old could emulate Anthony Gordon’s performances with his no-fear approach.

Patterson started against both Polan and Austria for Scotland over the international break.

He caught the eye with his marauding runs down the right flank, while Steve Clarke’s men did not concede with him on the pitch.

McLeish insisted Patterson’s performances will have Lampard considering putting him into the Everton side.

“I think Patterson will have struck a chord (with Lampard), certainly with the performance level,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“You see the enthusiasm of the guy. He’s a young player with no nerves. When you’ve got young players in that kind of zone, I’ve seen it many times before.

“Sometimes they come through, like Nathan is coming through, and they’re the top man every week. Then all of a sudden they have a wee plateau and then they come back again.

“He looks extremely in the right frame of mind to play for Everton in the Premier League. His confidence will be sky high. I would expect Frank to take big, big notice of that.

“Protect young players? They’ve been saying this for 20-odd years, even more. No, unleash them. Unleash them, we’ve seen what Anthony Gordon has done.

“I think Frank will react to that.”

Patterson has not made a single league appearance for Everton yet.

His only start came in the FA Cup against Boreham Wood.
