Everton news: ‘Massive’ Andros Townsend fears raised after shattering update – Mills
Andros Townsend may find it “massively difficult” to recapture his Everton form next season after missing pre-season through injury.
That is the view of former England defender Danny Mills, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the wake of the 30-year-old’s “disappointing” injury blow.
Townsend was replaced in the 17th minute as Everton were thumped 4-0 by the winger’s former side Crystal Palace in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday (20 March).
Speaking post-match and quoted by The Athletic, manager Frank Lampard conceded the injury “looks bad”.
Everton provided an update via club media on Wednesday (23 March), confirming the winger will miss “the rest of the season” after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Mills backed the “super-diligent” former England international to bounce back.
“It’s so disappointing for Everton and disappointing for him too,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“He’ll miss a huge chunk of that pre-season now, and that’ll make it massively difficult to catch up next year.
“But he’s super-diligent, he wants to win, he works hard. There’s no doubt he’ll be trying to get fit as soon as possible. I wish him all the best.”
As per Transfermarkt, the winger has missed just 16 games through injury in a professional career spanning 13 years.

Townsend, who is contracted until June 2023, had netted seven goals in 27 Everton games this term.
The Toffees sit 17th in the Premier League, just three points clear of the drop zone.
